If we can double the average lifetime of clothing, we reduce the climate impact by half. When you care for your garments, repair them as needed, and recycle them when time has come, you help to push the shift towards sustainable consumption.

Our top-5 tips on how to care for your wardrobe-favourites

Every fabric has unique qualities, so look closely at the care labelling to wash and treat the clothes as advised. However, some general recommendations are to wash the garments inside-out with similar colours, not to bleach and dry clean, and avoid using fabric softener. Fabric softener reduces breathability and takes time to degrade. Want to know more? You can get some clever tips on how to wash your clothes at www.clevercare.info

FOLLOW CARE AND

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS

In general, we over-wash our clothes. If the garment is not dirty or soiled, it’s often enough to simply hang it up to ventilate. This saves water, energy and help garments last longer.

1

WASH YOUR GARMENTS

LESS FREQUENTLY

Repair your clothes quickly if they are torn or damaged. Don’t wait. It will save you more than a few stitches.

4

REPAIR PROMTLY

Avoid exposing garments to direct sunlight for prolonged periods since the colours can fade, and fabrics can become fragile. Store clothing in a dark and dry environment.

Woven clothes on the other hand, like pants and trousers, are best stored on solid hangers.

Knitted clothes such as shirts and t-shirts should ideally be stored flat or lying down. These garments risk losing shape if hung.

A few things can be done to extend the lifetime of garments, even when they aren’t being worn.

3

STORE WITH CARE

To help protect your outerwear and ensure they last longer, we recommend using an ECO fluorocarbon free waterproofing spray, usually referred to as a Durable Water Repellence (DWR). It will serve as a shield for your clothes.

This treatment provides the fabric with a water and dirt repellent surface and consequently keeps colours from fading as well as helping the fabric to maintain shape.

A textile waterproofing spray-on also works well in reactivating a DWR that has been worn down after a few washes or adventures. You will know when it’s time to improve the protecting surface when the fabric absorbs an increased amount of moisture and/ or dirt.

The Hajk Textile Waterproofing can be used on most common fabrics such as cotton, lyocell, wool, polyester, and is easily applied using the four steps below.
